If we look at number of options, then a Generalist usually has more options and the probability of progression is more as compared to Specialist. If we look at competition, then the number of candidates for specialist profile is less giving a bright chance of being selected. In addition, specialists are more likely to get a posting in divisional or regional offices, i.e. in offices located at bigger stations. Now, you can choose between both these profiles.
