    I borrowed home loan from HDFC in 2012. Two months back I have got the possession of my flat and I already paid some amount as Pre EMI interest. The total interest paid by me is more than Rs. 1.5 lakhs in a year. My question is can I claim pre EMI interest in my income tax return over and above the limit of Rs 1.5 lakhs.

    Limit of Rs. 1.5 lakhs is inclusive of pre EMI and EMI interest payments during a financial year. This provision is applicable in case the house is self-occupied.
