How can I restart as accounts audit professional after a gap of six years

I am M.Com with 3 years experience in accounts audit. Due to my personal reasons, I couldn’t work for last 6 years and in between lot of new accounting packages have come in. How can I bring my profession on the right track?

With this gap, it is at times difficult to convince employers and they often don’t give any credit to previous experience. For short term, you can join chartered accountant or a small organization to gain the credits of your experience back. Though the salary will be less but you will get good exposure to current accounting packages.
