Suggestion on debt fund and small & mid cap MF

I am thinking of making following investments through SIP in MFs ? Debt fund for1 to 2 years for emergency. Basic idea of investing in these funds is to avoid negative returns. In addition I wish to invest in ICICI Prudential Discovery fund for 7 years. Since I have restricted knowledge on MFs, I want experts here to guide me on my planning.

Debt funds are market linked products. Therefore, there is no guarantee of getting only positive returns. I won’t suggest you to invest in it. ICICI prudential discovery fund is a good choice but increase the tenure of investment.
