Is it required to know about currency valuations while working with export house

In a month’s time I will be joining an export house as finance manager but I have never understood currency and its valuation. In my case, will it be necessary to have knowledge of foreign currency?

Finance manager of an export house is required to develop finance department’s policy and procedure manual. His task involves ensuring compliance with applicable taxes, performing accounting and related tasks and reporting it to management. As finance manager, you will have to look for accounting which will involve exchange rates and foreign currencies. Therefore, you need to have at least workable knowledge of foreign exchange.
