My father-in-law gifted me a property in 2012 which he purchased in 2008 for Rs. 18 lakhs. I paid stamp duty and registration fee on my own. If I sell it, will it be a LTCG or STGC and while calculating the gain, which value will be considered ? 2008 when the property was initially purchased or 2012 when it was gifted to me?

Since it is a gifted property, cost price for you will be the basic price of 2008 indexed to 2014 plus your stamp duty and registration fee also indexed to 2014. It will be taxed as LTCG.
