Last year, my friend had invested in Birla Sun Life International Equity Plan A. The plan is an international fund. My friend wants to know that if he redeems the fund in 2nd year of investment then what will be the tax implications on it.

Apart from being an international fund, this fund falls under the category of debt fund. Tell your friend that from taxation point of view, the fund will follow the taxation rules on redemption value as per the provisions applicable on debt funds.
