Minimum average quarterly balance in HDFC Salary account

My salary was being credited to salary account maintained with HDFC Bank Delhi. When I shifted to Jaipur, I had Rs. 2,300 in my account. Now, when I have thought of getting it closed, it has nil balance and bank manager is asking for penalty for not maintaining minimum average quarterly balance. But it was a salary account so why these charges?

Once the credit of salary stops in account, it automatically gets converted to normal savings account. Therefore, you will be liable to pay the penalty charges before closing your account. Try to negotiate the charges with bank manager.

It take atleast 3 months for such conversion of salary account to normal account. Also Bank should have informed you before implementing such charges. It is totally unreasonable and you should fight for it.
